Lift Refurbishment Step by Step – What You Need to Know

Lift refurbishment is a complex process requiring precise planning and an experienced contractor. Below we present the complete process from the initial survey to handover.

1. On-site Survey

The first step is always the on-site survey, where our specialists assess the current condition and dimensions of the existing lift and the client’s requirements. This is the foundation of every plan and quotation.

2. Planning & Material Selection

Based on the survey, we prepare the detailed plan. When selecting materials, we consider traffic volume, aesthetic requirements and sustainability aspects.

3. Manufacturing & Preparation

Custom elements are manufactured in our workshop, with dimensions and quality pre-tested. This minimises on-site working time.

4. On-site Installation

Installation is carried out by our experienced specialists, with minimal disruption to the building’s daily operations.

5. Handover & Warranty

We prepare documentation of the completed work and provide a warranty on all installed elements.

What does “lift interior refurbishment” actually mean?

Lift interior refurbishment is not the same as a complete lift replacement. The mechanical components – the drive unit, controls, cables – generally remain in good condition for decades. What wears out, what shows the years: the interior of the cabin.

This includes the wall cladding (whether laminated panel, film, stainless steel or glass), the suspended ceiling, the floor covering, the doors and handrails, and the control panel. The simultaneous renewal of all these is what we call lift interior refurbishment.

Why refurbish now?

  • Added value: A neglected lift reduces the value of a building. A refurbished lift increases it.
  • Tenant/resident satisfaction: The lift is the building’s calling card – it creates the first impression.
  • Safety: Worn cladding elements and sharp corners can be hazardous.
  • BREEAM/LEED compliance: For office buildings, refurbishment can earn green points.

The refurbishment steps

1. On-site survey (free of charge)

Our specialists assess the lift dimensions, current condition and client requirements. This is the basis of the quotation.

2. Planning & material selection

We help with the decision by presenting sample materials and 3D visualisations.

3. Manufacturing

Most elements are manufactured in our workshop – this reduces on-site working time and the margin for error.

4. On-site installation

Typically 1–2 working days. The lift will only be out of service for this short period.

5. Handover & warranty

Documented handover, 12-month warranty on all completed work.

“The complete refurbishment took 2 working days. The residents barely noticed.” – Building Manager, Budapest
